iOS 5

The disappointment of no iPhone 5. The happy surprise at the improvement in performance offered by iPhone 4S. The sadness at the passing of Steve Jobs. It’s been one hell of a month for Apple so far. Today sees them release the most anticipated update to iOS ever, iOS5.

In fact, as I write, it’s less than two hours until the anticipated release at 6pm BST. So what are you going to get with iOS5. Here’s a brief round up of the major improvements, features and apps – of which there are 200 in total!

  • New Notifications Centre – all your notifications in one place
  • iMessenger – Apple’s answer to BBM
  • Twitter Integration – Tweet directly from Photos, Camera, Maps etc
  • Camera – access it right from the lock screen
  • Photos – ability to crop, rotate and a whole lot more
  • iCloud – you’ll be able to use your Apple devices without ever needing a PC thanks iCloud. As well as sync with your PC over wireless. Share Calendars through it. iCloud is going to rule your Apple world
  • Mail – ability to format your emails. Bold, italicise, colour!
  • Find My Friends – pinpoint your friends and family with this new app. Ask where they are, they say yes, you see them on your map

I’ll be downloading everything – and I mean everything – tonight and giving it all a test drive over the next few days, so expect a proper review of iOS5 and all that comes with it early next week. I’ve never been so excited by an update!
