Google to acquire Twitter?

TechCrunch have sourced a rumour from people supposedly close to the negotiations that Google is attempting to acquire microblogging service Twitter.

Why? Search.

Twitter is becoming an increasingly powerful search tool and if Google knows anything, it knows search. Read the full story over at TechCrunch, but please share your views on this – would be a good thing or a bad thing for the latest social media craze?
